I'm official!

In my first post I had planned to get my Etsy store set up the same afternoon. But after looking into everything a little more, I realized there was more to do than just list everything on Etsy. I wanted to make sure I did everything I was supposed to do to legally be in business. So, I got my home business license and found out how to apply for my tax id number, and then set up everything online. So, my Etsy store is now open for business!!! Hooray!

I have 14 pairs of earrings listed and will be adding more this week. I have several ideas running around in my mind, just longing to come out. So keep checking on Facebook and Etsy to see the new items I post.

Right now I only have earrings on my store, but I have plans to do some bracelets, rings, and pendants. I can hardly wait to get started on everything and then share it with you! I hope you're as excited as I am!

One thing that I am very excited to work on this week is a pair of earrings that first started to come together in my mind in October while we were doing Judgement House at our church. I was in the Heaven scene and of course we had angels in Heaven. I started seeing angel wings in my mind, but wasn't quite sure exactly how to put into beads what I was seeing in my mind. So I just kept the idea in the back of my mind and I would bring it out and think on it every few days. I think I am close to figuring it out and it's time to get the beads out and start putting some stuff together. I am also hoping that I can make a pair of earrings that Elizabeth would like to wear in her wedding. That would be a milestone for me!

So, please go check out my Etsy store and follow me here and join me on this adventure! Can't wait to see how this is going to go!

Berry's Beadies and More

Hello! Welcome to my blog about my new business, Berry's Beadies and More! I am excited about this new adventure and wanted to share it!

When I was in middle school, at Union Public Schools in Tulsa, OK, there was a sort of club formed for students who were of Native American descent. That is where I learned to bead on a loom and by hand. Since then, I have made things, off and on, and given some stuff away, kept some things, but always enjoyed the creative process. It is a natural high to sit down with some colored pencils and graph paper and make up a design, then follow that design with beads either by hand or on a loom, and see the finished product!

One of my favorite things to make is earrings. When I remember to wear earrings, I usually get compliments and people will ask me where I got them. When I tell them I made them myself, many times I would be asked if I sell them. For years my answer was no, but I would be happy to make them a pair. Now, I have hopes to turn this hobby into a business.

My first goal with this business is for it to be self-sustaining. I am hoping to sell enough of my items to be able to pay to buy more beads, thread, and other supplies, so that I can make more earrings and other items to sell.

My second goal is to allow my creative side free reign and encourage it to continue to grow. I have found in the past few weeks as I have gotten ready for launching this business that the more I make, the more I see things that I want to make! The more the colors swirl in my mind, and the more the beads call to me. Colors I never thought would go together, somehow find harmony with one another.

Finally, my third goal is to allow others to enjoy the beauty of handcrafted items. To give them something to wear that they will receive compliments on and will enjoy wearing. And perhaps to pass on a bit of my heritage to each person.

I find great joy in what I create. Sometimes I get so caught up in what I am doing that I lose track of time. Sometimes I can see in my mind what I want the finished item to look like, but just can't quite get it to come together. So I keep trying; starting over and over again. And finally, I have something to be proud of there before me!

There are several reasons behind the name Berry's Beadies and More. One is fairly obvious, it's because my last name is Berry and many of my items are made from beads. But I also enjoy other mediums and will be offering things not made of beads....hence "and More". But the reason it's "Beadies" is because of my oldest grandson, Josiah. When he was little, "beadies" was the word he came up with to be silly. If you asked him what he wanted to eat for dinner, he would grin and say "beadies". If you were being silly with him, you might be called "beadies-head". It was a word that stuck in our family, so it is meaningful to me. It makes this more of a family business than just me by myself. Plus, my kids and grandkids are so creative, themselves, that occasionally I will be offereing some of their items, too, so I wanted something that could include the entire family.

I will be setting up an Etsy store this afternoon. Once I have it set up, I will come back on here and post the link to it. Until then, if you are interested in any of my earrings, you can see pictures on my facebook page and message me with any orders. I have some things already made and ready to ship. Others will be made as ordered. If you like a pair of earrings, but would prefer a different color, message me and I will see if I have the color you are wanting.

Thanks for reading this and welcome to my journey of having my own business! I'm very excited and can't wait to get started!
